Upgrading My Macbook Pro’s Hard Drive

I did this a couple of weeks ago, but I’m just now getting around to talking about it. I’ve long been needing to upgrade the 120GB hard drive in my Macbook Pro. With money tight and no new computer in sight, I took the plunge and purchased a 500GB hard drive from Other World Computing.

It was the best and most harrowing decision I’ve made in a long time. Keep in mind, there is no do over. If I break it, I’m stuck with my wife’s 7 year old Dell. I was able to successfully perform the surgery, but not without some big time help.

This video from YouTube was absolutely key in helping me find out how to disassemble my Mac. Turns out, it’s a little tricky. This thread in Apple’s discussion forums was a huge help as well.

Editing Video for My M-in-L

We shot an interview with my mother-in-law last week that is now on her website. I’ve spent the last few days editing the roughly 1 hour of footage we have. We shot the video for her real estate website. Here is one of the videos I’ve completed thus far.

Getting Pissed At Your Spouse

What is it about getting into an argument with your spouse that just takes everything out of you? It’s not like it’s enjoyable, but once the argument is on, it’s hard to let go of what pissed you off. It’s true that sometimes arguments need to be had. The air needs to be cleared. Other times, though, you have the same argument for years. Those are the ones that drain you. Those are the ones where the solution often feels elusive.

Money seems to be a big point of contention for a lot of couples. I know it is for my wife and I. We both have the same overarching goal: fiscal freedom. We want to thrive, not just survive. Unfortunately, our methods of achieving our goal tend to be different. My problem is not that our methods are different. It’s that it is quite difficult to reach a consensus on the way to move forward.

Of course, we are not the only couple to go through this. I’m certain our parents have, and maybe still do. For all I know, this maybe something we go through our entire lives. Whatever the case, I can only hope this helps us both grow and learn as individuals and as a couple. Since I know we really love each other, I’m betting on the fact that it will.

Does It Matter Who Gets Credit For The Death of Osama Bin Laden?

Yes, the death of Osama Bin Laden by an elite group of Navy SEALS is very big news. He was probably the biggest bogeyman in this country’s collective conscience since Hitler. Regardless, I don’t think we should be fighting over who gets credit for it.

Republicans are falling over themselves to claim credit on behalf of former President Bush. Other conservatives are even using the news as an opportunity to justify torture as an effective and morally sound means of interrogation. Nevertheless, it occurs to me that it simply does not matter who gets credit.

I get it. For politicians, it’s all about scoring political points. The rest of us, though, should be beyond point scoring. The bottom line is that a very bad man who caused grievous harm to the world is dead. It is a somber occasion. A human life was taken, after all. Let’s take this time to think about how this event fits in with how we see ourselves as a nation. When you think about it, a little introspection never killed anyone.
