Aziz Ansari’s New Comedy Album Hits The Mark

Amazon MP3 sent out a tweet on Monday offering Aziz Ansari’s new comedy album a day early, and for only $3.99. Since I’ve liked him in shows like Scrubs and Parks & Recreation, I decided I would give it a try. I’m very glad I did.

He covers several topics from domestic goods to his younger cousins to Kanye West. I particularly loved his story about how he messes with his 14 year old cousin on Facebook. This will end up on heavy rotation, along with my John Pinette and Lewis Black albums. I highly recommend it.

Observe and Report

observe_and_report

I just finished watching Observe and Report starring Seth Rogen. I really wanted to like this movie. I thought it would be the perfect edgy, offbeat comedy I usually love. And it was to some degree.

What didn’t work for me was the frequent and jarring change in tone throughout the movie. One moment, it was building up to a comedic payoff, only to switch to a sad character study the next.

Seth Rogen is a very talented actor whose comedy I very much enjoy. Unfortunately, even he couldn’t tie the disparate parts of this movie together. On the bright side, I found Aziz Ansari to be quite funny in his bit role. The Parks & Recreations star has been a favorite of mine since he had a short lived part on Scrubs.

I have no doubt Seth Rogen will make more great movies. However, this won’t be one of my personal favorites.
